Children...1

Children...1

If a child has asthma, it's vital that he or she is trained to breathe properly as soon as possible. This is because a child's body soon becomes tolerant to asthma medication so more and more drugs are required to keep the symptoms under control. The biggest problem with this is that often, although the dose and strength of the medication is increased, the child continues to need more. If a child is on the maximum dose at 10, how will he manage when he's 20?

Although bronchodilators can be lifesavers during an emergency, used in the long term, they have been proven to make asthma worse. With this in mind, it is therefore imperative that parents are warned
before their child embarks upon this dangerous route.

The good news is that there is another way. If the child is taught to breathe correctly he will learn to control the symptoms and there will be no need for any medication.

When you read these case studies, remember, the real issue is not how their condition compares to that of before the course, but how it compares to what it would be by now if their drug regime had continued to escalate.

Sally-Ann was taking a huge dose of Seretide, five times the maximum recommended for children.

By the end of the course she was taking just Flixotide.
Although the Serevent component of her Seretide was the most dangerous of her drugs, she was delighted that she no longer needed the Nuelin because she hated the taste.

Like his sister, James was taking too much Seretide, more than three times the maximum recommended dose.

By the end of the course he too was taking just Flixotide and was delighted not to be taking Nuelin.

Prior to the course, both children were taken to hospital three or four times a year, suffering from pneumonia. Two years after the course, apart from antibiotics to guard against pneumonia, all the children are taking is 1 puff of Flixotide 125 each morning and evening.

Instead of worrying about constant hospital visits, their mother, Andrea is kept busy taking the children to their various sporting activities. She describes their progress as "Brilliant!"

Sally-Ann is doing very well at school. She's in the school swimming club and plays golf and netball. James is fond of sport too and plays rugby, football, tennis and golf.
