Diary of a Nurse

Diary of a Nurse

Ex-district nurse, Diana Button

A fortnight after her Buteyko course
"It is now nearly two weeks since I started the Buteyko Breathing Course with you. I cannot tell you what a difference doing the course has made in such a short time.

"When I came to you my main problem was a constant embarrassing cough, which affected my ability to converse with people face to face and especially when speaking on the telephone.

"Since I completed my week with you my cough has decreased considerably and when I do cough, I feel in control. I also sleep much better! Also I have stopped taking the Salmeterol inhaler completely and have not

needed any Salbutamol inhaler since learning the Buteyko Breathing Method. At present I continue to take the Flixotide inhaler but my aim is to reduce and ultimately stop this totally.

"I can't tell you how much this has changed my life and how grateful I am. Having struggled for so many years. I feel as though I am now in control."

A month after the course
"Last Thursday I went for the lung function tests in the surgery! The nurse works for a pharmaceutical company but assured me she was totally freelance!

"The tests had improved since the others I had had done just before I saw you. My lung age now is 53yrs as opposed to 69yrs. This of course could be due to other factors, such as a different machine and a slightly different way of doing things, but nevertheless it was a marked improvement. I am sure it is due to my general improvement since doing the course. She was interested in the Buteyko method but felt that I should not cut out the Flixotide but take it on a maintenance dose indefinitely!

"The other week I had an upper respiratory infection but I coped with it quite well. Also we spent the whole day with some old friends the other day and I only once had to go and do some rescue breathing. Normally I would have been very anxious talking for all that time but it was great not to worry so much."

Six weeks after the course
"I went to get my reduced Flixotide the other day and I think my G.P. for once was quite impressed with what has happened. I also told him I am now saving his budget!"
