Are the drugs bad for me? All drugs have side effects but while you have problems with your breathing you need them. It is very dangerous to discontinue them without consulting your doctor.
When is the best time for me to start a Buteyko course? This depends on your circumstances. The longer you delay, the more medication you are likely to be needing because the body develops tolerance for the drugs, which then have to be increased. However, it's better to wait if you find you have an infection so that you can give yourself the best chance of success.
My child may be asthmatic. Would it be a good idea to try a Buteyko course? Yes indeed! Obtain medical advice to ensure that there isn't another problem. If it turns out to be asthma then this is the very best time to stop it in its tracks. However, remember that it's never too late to help your child learn how to breathe more normally and improve his or her health.
I play a lot of sport. Will I have to give it up? No, but you may have to slow down a bit at first while you learn to breathe correctly. After this, you will find that you have lots more energy and stamina for your sport - and probably find you don't need your inhaler!
